Dr. Wojtovich’s research focuses on how metabolism drives key outcomes in aging, neurodegeneration, and ischemic stroke. The lab is at the forefront of using optogenetic techniques to manipulate mitochondrial activity under ischemic conditions. This cause-and-effect strategy enables us to understand the molecular mechanisms and translate them into real-world, in vivo applications. We are seeking motivated sophomores and juniors who are eager to pursue research and contribute to a project aimed at improving ischemic stroke outcomes by studying mitochondrial perturbation during stroke. This is a unique opportunity to work on impactful, novel research with the potential to make a significant difference.
